Hamilton Signs Downtown
This year, instead of jetting off somewhere, you’ve decided to enjoy a “staycation” right here in Hamilton.

If you have kids, you’ll want to do some family-friendly activities in Hamilton, such as:

  • Art Gallery of Hamilton.
  • Hamilton Children’s Museum.
  • Adventure Village.
  • Wild Waterworks.
Of course, there are also Hamilton entertainment options for grown-ups too, like:
  • Theatre Aquarius.
  • FirstOntario Concert Hall.
  • Supercrawl Festival.
Having said all that, there are tons of undiscovered jewels near Multi-Area Developments’ Summit Park just waiting for you to discover and experience.

Love birds? Visit the Friends of the Aviary

  • Address: 85 Oak Knoll Drive.
  • Distance from Summit Park: 22 kms.
  • Driving Time: 22 minutes.
Cockatoo

Did you know there’s a colourful and beautiful bird sanctuary in the heart of Hamilton?

Did you also know it’s been there since 1927 (that’s 42 years before the moon landing).

Every Saturday, from 1pm-4pm, Friends of the Aviary is open to the public, where visitors can get up close and personal with:
  • Parrots.
  • Parakeets.
  • Cockatoos.
Finally, if you’re interested in getting a private tour, you are encouraged to ask about it.

Love history? Check out the Hamilton Warplane Heritage Museum

  • Address: 9280 Airport Road.
  • Distance from Summit Park: 13 kms.
  • Driving Time: 15 minutes.
  • Every so often, the skies get loud. When you look up, you spot an old-fashioned World War II bomber thundering along.
Lancaster bomber

Chances are, that plane (and others like it) took off from the Hamilton Warplane Heritage Museum.

The centrepiece of the museum is the hangar, which allows you to touch and climb about legendary planes such as:

The Avro Lancaster (there are only 2 flight-worthy Lancasters left in the world, and Hamilton has one of them).
The Supermarine Spitfire.
Lockheed Starfighters
In addition, you’ll find exhibits with clothing, equipment, and other items soldiers relied on while serving Canada.

Love nature? Discover the waterfalls of Hamilton

  • Address: All through the city.
  • Distance from Summit Park: As close as 4 kms.
  • Driving Time: As little as 3 minutes.
  • Hamilton is known as the City of Waterfalls, and the waterfalls near Summit Park are breathtakingly beautiful and easy to get to as well.
Albion Falls Hamilton

Combined, there are over 120 named waterfalls within the city, most of which cascade over Hamilton Mountain.

Some of the more well-known waterfalls include:

  • Albion Falls.
  • Tiffany Falls.
  • Chedoke Falls.
  • Devil’s Punchbowl.
Many of these waterfalls have conservation area trails or paths leading up to them, which allows people to get up close and take gallery-quality photographs.

Love sports? Check out the Canadian Football Hall of Fame

  • Address: 64 Melrose Ave North.
  • Distance from Summit Park: 12 kms.
  • Driving Time: 16 minutes.
  • Canadian football has been played coast-to-coast for over 100 years.
CFL Hall of Fame

The history of the sport and its greatest players are all celebrated at the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, which is now located at Tim Hortons Field.

Traditional hall-of-fame elements like the sculpted busts for each member are combined with modern interactive exhibits such as:
  • Virtual journey through the past.
  • Digital galleries of Grey Cup winning teams.
  • Interchangeable displays of Canadian football artifacts.
Best of all, admission is free all year round; even when the Hamilton Tiger-Cats are playing on the road or in the off-season.

One quirky fact about the Canadian Football Hall of Fame: It’s 110 yards long (same length as a Canadian football field).
